If you’re wondering how to deal with failure, you are in the right place.
Failure is part of life. It may seem horrible at the time, especially if we’ve failed at something we worked so hard for. But it’s where we grow the most. Yes, you pushed yourself and it didn’t work out the way you’d hoped. But then you try again. And again. And again.

Michael Jordan is one of the greatest basketball players in history. But did you know that when trusted with the winning shot, he got 25 shots in but missed 26? He failed more than he succeeded, but still he remains one of the greatest to ever play the game. Which goes to show that failing doesn’t make you a loser. It helps you grow. When he failed, he carried on – and turned his failures into wins.

The sooner we stop shaming our failures the easier it will be to turn them to our advantage, and make every risk we take a win-win scenario.

How to deal with failure:

  • Identify your mistakes and learn from them quickly – We will all inevitably make mistakes. It’s part of life. As long as you learn from them, you will turn your failures into wins.
  • Speak kindly to yourself – You are your own best friend. Speak to yourself the way you’d speak to your best friend or partner. Words of affirmation and encouragement go a long way for them, and they will for you too.
  • Doing badly is better than not doing – The person who tried and did terribly will make more progress than the person who never tried. Remember that!
  • Be consistent – If you try and fail, pick yourself up. Keep going. Be consistent in your methods and you will turn your failures into wins.
  • Seek a mentor – If you feel like you’re failing over and over again with no progress, find a mentor. Learn from them. Seek advice. That is growth, and that is one of the best ways to turn your failures into wins.

Failures are wins. Why? Because you tried. You did your best. You gave it your all. Even if you didn’t, that lesson will help you win in the future. Even still, you are doing more than the person sitting on the couch saying that they “can’t do it”. You can and you will.

Keep at it, learn from your mistakes and you will continue to grow.
